Lumbini is a major pilgrimage site for Buddhists in the Rupandehi district of Nepal. Lord Gautam Buddha was born here. He lived roughly between 623 and 543 BC. The name to the religion Buddhism was derived from the name of Gautam Buddha. He is known to have enlightened the path of peace and love. Lumbini is known to be one of the four pilgrimage places related to Buddha. The other three are Kushinagar, Bodh Gaya and Sarnarth.
Lumbini is a tourism site too with many temples around including the Mayadevi temple. A holy pond here known as Puskarini is believed to be where Gautam Buddha’s mother took a ritual bath after giving birth to baby Buddha.
This place is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is also nominated for the international World Heritage Program. The holy site of Lumbini is surrounded and is separated from being built civilian building inside the territory. This beautiful act of preserving the ancient remarks of the place has made the place a heritage one,
The holy site of Lumbini consists of ancient monasteries, a sacred Bodhi tree, an ancient pond where Buddha is believed to have taken his first bath, the Asokan Pillar and the Mayadevi temple. Pilgrims from various countries visit this site and perform meditation and chanting at this site.
