Tsum Valley Trek

Overview and Highlights

Tsum Valley Trek is a recently opened and permitted trekking site in Nepal. Nepal tourism board is trying its best to promote and develop this trekking route at the fastest rate possible. Newer trekking routes are always getting borne as trekker’s demands for dynamic trekking sites are increasing day by day. Nepal tourism board is trying to add more of the trekking sites throughout the country to provide more options to trekkers who come to Nepal.

Tsum Valley is a holy and pilgrimage one in the Trans-Himalaya Region of Gorkha. The natural beauties and pristine cultures of this place make it unique among the trekking regions. The name Tsum is derived from a Tibetan word Tsombo. Comparing to other trekking sites, this valley is rich in ancient art, primitive culture and religions. The community together form a unique form of living.

With support of Nepal tourism board and trekkers, Tsum valley trekking is getting developed and popular on an everyday basis. Although the trekking route is a new one, but the combination of cultural heritages and natural scenic views are primitive and old ones. Among the previous trekkers, most of them admired this site and left positive reviews about this place.

The Tsum Valley is inspired by Buddhist culture. Milarepa, who is known to be a Buddhist saint is said to settle in the caves of this particular valley. There are more hidden ancient treasures in the Tsum Valley, but due to lack of publicity and activeness here, they still remain a mystery.

Day to Day Itinerary Expand/Collapse All

Upon arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our representatives. After completion of official formalities, we pick our luggage and head towards a 4 star category hotel where you will be transferred to stay overnight.

You will be woken up with a morning call along with bed tea and breakfast. Today, we will enjoy sightseeing around Kathmandu the entire day including visits to some of the major places of the city such as Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudha and so on. These sites have been listed as World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. We get back to our hotel in late evening and stay overnight

With an early breakfast we leave our hotel and head towards Arughat. It is a long drive of 8 hours today. The journey is a scenic one that offers glorious sceneries outside the window. Upon arrival in Arughat, we of course are exhausted. We get transferred to a teahouse in Arughat and stay overnight

This is the first day of our trekking part. We cross the bridge over Budhi Gandaki River and start our trek from the western part of Arughat. The route takes us through miracles such as a hydro-electricity power plant, green fields of cultivated rice and millet and remote villages of human settlements. We walk for several hours until we reach Soti Khola. Camp overnight

We cross the bridge after Soti Khola and trek through lush forests of Sal. Then we make an ascend climb over a ridge that exists above the Budi Gandaki. The rocky trail before us comprises of several ups and downs. After 7 hours from the starting point we arrive in Machha Khola where we camp overnight

We make our move through the narrow trail and then cross the Tharo Khola. After a few more ups and downs, there is a hot water spring. We get to the other side of the ridge after this water spring and again we cross the Budhi Gandaki over a suspension bridge. To the west bank of this river there lays a ridge after which we walk along the banks of the river and reach the village of Jagat. Camp or teahouse overnight

We make a steep climb over a rocky ridge that takes us to Salleri, and then the trail makes a descend fall to Sirdibas. At some point of the day, we reach a large Gurung village named Philim. We walk towards the north from here and reach Chisapani. Camp or teahouse overnight

After an hour of trekking, we see a huge waterfall to the right side. We enter the pine forest nearby and descend down to Tsum valley. Along with the walk, we can enjoy views of Himalchuli and Boudha Himal that seem utterly beautiful. We arrive in Chumling and stay overnight

We cross a suspension bridge in order to get to the order side of the river. We walk leaving Rainjam behind and arrive at Gho village. Another 2 hours of trek takes us to Chhokangparo where we stay our night

Now, climbing above Chhokangparo is a bit dangerous. We need to be careful and watch out we show any kind of symptom of altitude sickness. Crossing the village of Chule on our way, we pass by a suspension bridge and finally arrive in Nile. Cam or teahouse overnight

We make a short trek today. As we have already enough altitude, chances are better to make us altitude sick. Trekking for about 3 hours, we arrive in Mu Gompa where we stay overnight

We spend this valuable day with rest. Acclimatization is very important in certain intervals of days. This idea prevents us from getting victimized by Acute Altitude Sickness that can cause serious problems to our health.

We have already made an acclimatization the previous day. Hoping for an energetic trek, we leave for our destination and leave Mu Gompa. We are now very close to the Tibetan border. Before arriving in Burgi village, we go through Milarepa which is good viewpoint for gaining views of Poshyop Glacier, Kipu Himal and Churke Himal. Overnight at Burgi village

We are now losing elevation and getting slowly to the lower regions. With rich vegetation before us, we watch the glorious views surrounding us and then descend to Gho. Walking through this lower regions of Tsum valley, takes us to Chumling today

We resume our trail to Lokpa. Finally arriving at Philim after 6 – 7 hours of trekking, we pause the trip for today and stay overnight

Today we set our destination to Khorlabesi through Jagat and Tatopani. We can optionally take a brief dip in the hot water spring of Tatopani. Soaking the body for some time so that our tired muscles get relaxed is not a bad idea to do. Even if we think that it’s not a good idea to do, we continue our walk and arrive in Khorlabesi

We are again visiting the Soti Khola today. We walk over the Budhi Gandaki River and enter the village of Labubesi. Leaving two waterfalls behind, we reach Khorsani. At the end of the day, we cross the bridge and arrive at Soti Khola. Camp overnight

Today we are returning to Kathmandu making an end to our journey. We trek all the way from Soti Khola to Arughat. Upon reaching Arughat, we take a brief rest and then drive to Kathmandu by bus that takes 7 – 8 hours. Hotel overnight

You will be offered with a leisure day in the Kathmandu city this day. You can either go for a short sightseeing tour around the city or even do shopping as per your interest. We get back to our hotel in the late evening and enjoy a cultural show along with a farewell dinner in our hotel.
