Gokyo Lake Trek

4 days in Kathmandu, 12 days Trekking, 3 Nights hotel in Kathmandu, Total 16 days trip Magnificent view of Himalayas, Sherpa villages and Monasteries, Sagarmatha National Park, Syangboche Airstrip , Everest mountain view

The Everest Gokyo Lake Trek provides magnificent views of Himalayas, Sagarmatha National Park, Sherpa Villages and monasteries, Syangboche Runway and the Everest Mountain View. These landscapes are just enduring to watch. Also, if you are an extrovert, it is an optional but interesting part of the trek to get into the lives of the local Sherpa people and interact with these ever-smiling and friendly people to get to know about their lifestyle and cultures.

The Gokyo Lake is the heart of this trek. The name to the trek is given from this lake. The breath-taking Gokyo Valley is situated just adjacent to Khumbu. The Gokyo Valley is known as the land of high altitude lakes. Several lakes are found in this high altitude area. From here, we can have magnificent views of the highest peaks, which range from east to west, like Mt. Gyachung Kang [7,922m], Mt. Everest [8,848m], Mt Cho Yu [8,153m], Mt. Lhotse [8,501m] and other smaller peaks too. On the way to destination, we can capture the descent view of Gokyo Lake.

Initially in this trek, we take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla from where we start trekking to the lands of Sherpas. We go through Sagarmatha National Park. And our primary destination "Namche Bazaar", which is the gateway of the Khumbu Region

The Gokyo Lake Trek is both tea-house and camping trek. In some places tea houses are available for lodging but due to absence of lodging in some places we need camp at those sites. This trek is a moderate one. Not so easy and not so difficult to walk through. The highest altitude we get in this trek is 4,572m, the Ama Dablam Base Camp. The Sherpa inhabitants cover most of the settlers in this area

Day 05: Acclimatization day in Namche

We spend this valuable day with rest. Acclimatization is very important in certain intervals of days. This idea prevents us from getting victimized by Acute Altitude Sickness that can cause serious problems to our health.

Day 06: Namche Bazaar – Phorse Village [3,810m/ 12,496ft]; 5 - 6 hours

You must have enjoyed the previous night for sure in this awesome place. However, no matter what, we need to make our way through the gradual ups and downs ahead. While trekking, you can enjoy superb views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and close up view of Thamserku. After 5 – 6 hours of trekking, we arrive at Phorse Village where we stay for this night

Day 07: Phorse Village – Machermo [4,470m/14,663ft]; 5 – 6 hours

Dew drops of the morning reflect the beauty of nature. We move towards our destination making it closer day by day. Crossing through numerous suspension bridges, we try to make our trip more comfortable by commenting on the nature. Wild lives such as pheasants, mountain goats, and the elusive musk deer seem more innocent than they really are. We stay this night in Machermo either in a teahouse or camp.

Day 08: Machermo – Gokyo [4,800m/15,744ft]; 5 – 6 hours

This day will take you to one of the most beautiful places in the country. We cross by a ridge named Chorten which is a perfect viewpoint for gaining views of both down the valley and of the Mt. Kangtega, Thamserku, and northern part to the Cho-Oyu. Our curiosity ends as we arrive at Gokyo and watch the nature around. Teahouse overnight

Day 09: Gokyo Valley: Climb Gokyo RI [5,357m/17,570ft] and hike to fifth lake; 5 – 6 hours

We climb the Gokyo valley above today. The day is actually meant for acclimatization but, it is not safe to stay idle for the entire day. So we make a short as easy sightseeing by climbing Gokyo RI. Then we hike to the fifth lake.

Day 10: Gokyo – Dole; 3 - 4 hours

It feels energized after a rest day. As a warm up, we trek for only 3 – 4 hours this day that takes us to Dole. Camp overnight

Day 11: Dole – Namche [3,440m/11,280ft]; 4 – 5 hours

The trek today is mostly downwards making steep descents. Prime attractions today are beautiful vegetation, abundance of animals and birds and lush forests of Rhododendron. After trekking for 4 – 5 hours, we would surely get exhausted. So we stay at lodge in Namche and take a shower and get relaxed in most possible ways.

Day 12: Namche Bazaar – Lukla; 6 – 8 hours

We make our first move in Namche and make our destination to Lukla. The route is mostly steep downwards this day. Crossing through suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, the trail seem more convenient and vegetated. As soon as we arrive in Lukla, we stretch our sore legs and take a complete rest for some time. Teahouse overnight

Day 13: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

We are very close to the end of this trek now. As we took a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla during the initial part of the trip, in the similar way, we fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu. Hotel overnight

You will be provided with a free leisure day in your own. You can optionally go for a short sightseeing tour or go for shopping. Back to hotel in the late evening and enjoy farewell dinner along with a cultural show. Stay overnight
