Honey Hunting in Nepal

Honey Hunting is referred as gathering of honey from colonies of wild bees. It is one of the most ancient human activities and is still practised in Nepal for business and tourism too. The country is famous for honey hunting too. This is because it is rich in large varieties and species of bees.

Honey Hunting is the real and rare activity of Gurung and Magar communities. Bhujung and Pasgaon are precisely chosen for honey hunting in Nepal. The activity is practised in several villages of the country and provides a strong potential in tourism industry. The most ancient known honey hunters are tribe of Mongols in Nepal. Since then, the practice has been followed down through generation by generation.

During honey hunting , bees of the colonies are driven away by use of smoke. With required equipments and safety tools, the honeycomb is carefully separated from the base. Honey hunters make sure that the bees do not inject them. Some species of bees leave venom after puncturing the human skin leaving human blood infected. After gaining the honeycomb, honey is extracted this can be used for various purposes including a use as medicine too.

Honey Hunting Trekking Itinerary:

Day 01 : Upon arrival in Kathmandu Airport you will be warmly greeted by our representatives and transferred to your hotel

Day 02: Sightseeing / Cultural Day in Kathmandu Valley [1,338m/4,389ft] Half day sightseeing around UNESCO Bhaktapur / Kathmandu where your guide will escort you on a tour of Buddhist and Hindu temples and shrines reflecting ancient local traditions. Hotel overnight

Day 03: Kathmandu to Khudi [1,131m/3,711ft]: A after 4 hours’ drive from Kathmandu you will arrive Vimal Nagar where you can visit Siddha cave [the biggest cave in Asia] after that 3 hour drive to Khudi. In the evening, slight show programme about cliff honey hunting. Overnight in Khudi

Day 04: Khudi to Base camp Village. Start trekking for Honey hunting village site; you can see many natural seen on the way. Welcome by villagers and Gurung culture dances after dinner.

Day 05: After working 2-3 hours for honey hunting site, you will see Honey hunting, Honey hunter pray before they start, viewing the heart thrilling honey hunting programme at cliff. Return back to Base camp village.

Day 06: Trek back to Khudi: The stream invites you to swim at natural swimming pool and walking through the bank of Marshyangdi River. Overnight at Khudi

Day 07: Khudi to Kathmandu: Drive back to Kathmandu it will take about 7 hour drive to Kathmandu.

Day 08: Final departure
